Otres Beach is just a 15 minute tuk tuk ride ($5) from downtown Sihanoukville. Here you will find 4 kilometres of quiet, white sandy beaches.
Sihanoukville lies on the southern coast of Cambodia and was only established as a city (and deep water port) in the 1960s. In the 1970s through to the mid-90s nothing happened there due to the civil war and then it was a slow road back to becoming a safe tourist destination again. Now it is a full blown tourist destination.
Otres Beach remains a quiet haven from the full scale tourist trappings. While there are an increasing number of accommodation and eating establishments the general vibe is still primarily relaxed and small scale.
Life is simple, the beer cold & cheap and the beach is great.
Getting to Sihanoukville (then tuk-tuk to Otres Beach)
An excellent summary is provided by Canby Publications Travel options to Sihanoukville. This covers options from Phnom Penh, Kampot, Vietnam, Thailand…
It is recommended you book your tickets through your hotel or a travel agency as they have the most up to date times etc. Yes, you will pay a dollar or two for this privilege but it will cut down on time-wasting running about.
We stayed at the The Secret Garden and enjoyed immensely. However there are a number of accommodation options in the area, and a number of price points.
